Third Try

So I have blogged before.
And I have failed miserably at keeping up with it.
The entire range of reasons that people have for not updating their blogs applied to me, and then some more! More often than not, I lost empathy for the subject I was writing about!

This third try has some cause behind it.

I have now been in Bombay for 5 years. As P reminded me recently, this is the longest 'uninterrupted' stint we have had in a single city since we married, back in '95. We've lived in Delhi longer (and come from there of course), but since '95 we have never lived in Delhi more than 4 years at a time.

I came to Bombay with a simple agenda - to go back to Delhi after 2/3 years! And yes, that is another deadline missed. So after 5 years of hating Bombay, I figured that I should at least put some of my ideas for Bombay 'out there'. Who knows, some CM somewhere may read the blog and say to himself....

Then there was this recent loss of a dear friend and colleague. It reminded me that I have only 'so much' time left; so if I was going to stand for some change, this was a good time to start. I recently met someone who defined this concept of 'meaning in life' well for me. He said, people find meaning in life once they start counting backwards from their death - as in 'I have 25 years left'; as opposed to 'I have lived only 21 years'. So I am at a slightly appropriate age, though to say that I have found meaning beyond a good holiday & a jack n coke would be overstating the obvious.

But I have - much like a pro wrestler - been dancing around some ideas that are appealing to me. Some of them have to do with running. Some with the cityscape and civilian life (unknown to our country at large). Some are purely altruistic. Some are ideas that could yank me into evaluating the criticality of a pay-cheque.

So read on; comment all you like. If something 'moves' you, call me or just adopt the idea and run with it.
